In the news ever since the film went on floors, ‘Padmaavat’, earlier titled ‘Padmavati’, has been mired in endless controversies. After facing so many controversies and death threats, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film finally found a released on January 25, 2018. The story of the fictional periodic-drama revolves around Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) – the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh (Shahid Kapoor), who is known for her beauty and valour in 13th century India. She captures the fancy of the reigning Sultan of Delhi, the tyrant Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), who becomes obsessed with her and goes to great lengths to fulfil his greed.

The period drama has taken the Box Office by storm and raked in Rs 56 crore in two days of its release. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the figures on his Twitter. The movie had collected Rs 5 crore on January 24 (paid reviews), Rs 19 crore on Day 1 of the release and managed to earn Rs 32 crore on Friday bringing the total collection of the film to Rs 56 crore.

Talking about the paid preview shows on Wednesday, Taran had earlier tweeted the first box office figures, “Despite challenges and extremely limited preview shows [which commenced in evening], #Padmaavat collects ₹ 5 cr in previews screenings on Wed.”

Experts were reported saying that the film would have opened to a better collection, but due to the controversies and protests which is still a matter of concern in certain regions, it managed to get a decent opening. Although the film performed extremely well all major cities.
