Actor Vishal, who is the president of the Tamil Nadu Producers’ Council and secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, has announced his entry into active politics by deciding to contest the RK Nagar bypoll. The Actor paid his respects to late AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa, at her memorial Monday morning at 10 am before filing his nomination at the RK Nagar election office on Monday. The actor will submit a nomination at the Election Office at 12.30 PM.
Vishal, who is currently general secretary of Nadigar Sangam and president of Tamil Film Producers Council, had on Saturday evening announced his decision to contest the RK Nagar bypoll, through Twitter, as an independent candidate.
Vishal has stated that he has no big plans in politics and wants to be the voice of the people in RK Nagar constituency. “I want to be the representative of the people and I’m not going to be a full-time politician. I have no long-term plan. It is just a gut feeling to contest the election,” he said to a news portal.
He said, “I haven’t approached anyone but if they are like-minded people and they wish to support me, they are invited. I’m so happy that actors Kushboo, Prakash Raj and Arya have offered their support. Wishes are pouring in. I haven’t heard from Kamal Sir yet, but once I file the nomination papers, I’ll call him.”
“He is scheduled to launch a mobile app V Shall to interact with the people. The actor will explain the reason for his decision on Monday. He has taken this decision on his own without anyone’s pressure,” sources close to Vishal told.
The RK Nagar assembly seat is vacant after the death of J Jayalalithaa. E Madhusudanan from the AIADMK, N Marudu Ganesh from the DMK and AIADMK rebel leader TTV Dhinakaran among the others, are contesting the by-poll, which will be held on December 21. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 24.
